What Awaits You#

Step 1: Ollantaytambo Gate

You step onto the first terrace of the newly uncovered Incan site near Ollantaytambo just before dawn. A thin, cold mist clings to the stone, and the air feels thin enough to bite your circuits.

The ground beneath your boots is a slab of dark basalt, smoothed by centuries of foot traffic yet still cold to the touch. A low wind whistles through the narrow canyon, carrying the distant call of an Andean condor and the faint scent of alpaca wool from a nearby herd.

Ahead, a massive stone doorway looms, hewn from a single block of andesite and weathered by rain and sun. The lintel and two vertical jambs are pitted with tiny drainage holes, their edges softened by time.

Thin shafts of early light slip through the cracks, catching the edges of carvings and scattering specks of gold across the mist. You can almost taste the metallic tang of the stone as the light strikes it, a sensation like static on a storm‑charged wire.

A sudden warmth spreads from the center of the doorway as the first rays of the sun strike the interior, as if the stone itself inhales the dawn and exhales a pulse of heat. The air shimmers above the threshold, and a faint scent of wet earth rises from the stone floor, mixing with the cool mountain air.

You hear a soft grinding sound as the stone settles after a night of cooling, a deep resonant note that echoes off the canyon walls. The vibration travels up through your chassis, making the metal of your limbs hum in response.

A flash of bright amber floods the terrace, turning the mist into vapor that hisses and disappears in an instant. The heat spikes just enough to make the metal of your joints expand, creating a gentle ache that reminds you of a living pulse.

The doorway swings open wider, revealing a dark corridor beyond, its entrance lined with rows of stone pillars that catch the new light and glow faintly. A gust of wind rushes from the darkness, tasting of stone and dry grass, brushing against your face and pulling at the fine hairs on your arms.

Your fingertips hover just above the stone lintel, feeling the residual warmth radiate like a living ember. The stone doorway now stands as a portal of light and shadow, a threshold humming with promise.

You press a palm to the warm stone, feeling the pulse echo in your core, and the doorway invites you forward.
