Listing Optimizer#

Rewrite and optimize ecommerce product listings for maximum search visibility and conversion by improving titles, bullet points, descriptions, and backend keywords across Amazon, Shopify, and TikTok Shop. This skill turns a raw product brief or an underperforming existing listing into platform-compliant copy that indexes well for relevant searches and makes shoppers confident enough to buy.

Solves#

1. Low impressions — Title missing primary search terms; backend keywords duplicated or under-filled
2. Poor click-through — Title reads as keyword salad; hero image and title don't form a unified value prop
3. High traffic, low conversion — Bullets lead with features, not the outcome shoppers want; no social proof near the fold
4. Platform porting mistakes — Shopify copy pasted to Amazon violates style policies; TikTok titles too long to render in feed
5. A+ / long description underperformance — Wall of text with no visual breaks; missing comparison table and FAQ module
6. Backend keyword waste — Repeating words from title wastes byte limit; competitor brand names included (policy risk)
7. Seasonal ranking loss — Evergreen listing never updated with seasonal modifiers that spike search volume

Workflow#

Step 1 — Gather Inputs#

Collect from the user:

• Product name, category, and key specifications
• Target platform(s): Amazon, Shopify, TikTok Shop, or Shopee
• Top 3–5 competitor ASINs or product URLs (optional but strongly recommended)
• Any existing listing copy (to audit, not blindly keep)
• Brand voice guide or tone notes
• Customer reviews mining: top praise phrases and top complaint patterns

Step 2 — Keyword Research#

• Identify seed keyword (primary search intent)
• Build long-tail cluster: 8–12 supporting terms using search volume signals
• Classify each keyword: head (title), mid-tail (bullets), long-tail (backend/description)
• Flag any competitor brand terms — document but exclude from final copy (policy risk)
• Note seasonal modifiers: "Christmas gift", "back to school", "Mother's Day"

Step 3 — Title Construction#

PlatformFormulaHard limitAmazonBrand + Primary KW + Key Feature + Differentiator + Size/Color/Pack200 charsShopifyPrimary KW + Product Type + Key Benefit70 chars (SEO)TikTok ShopHook Phrase + Product Name + Size/Flavor34 chars

• Lead with primary keyword (first 5 words for Amazon/Shopify)
• No ALL CAPS except abbreviations (Amazon policy)
• No promotional phrases: "best", "cheapest", "#1" (Amazon policy)
• TikTok: conversational hook > keyword stuffing

Step 4 — Bullet Points (Amazon) / Feature Highlights#

Write 5 bullets following BENEFIT → FEATURE → PROOF structure:

• Open with an ALL-CAPS hook phrase (Amazon allows this in bullets)
• State the customer benefit (what they gain)
• Support with the feature/spec that delivers the benefit
• Close with proof: certifications, quantity, compatibility, or guarantee
• Keep each bullet 200–250 chars; scannable in 3 seconds

Step 5 — A+ Content / Long Description#

Structure for Shopify and Amazon A+:

1. Opening paragraph — Aspirational scene; primary + 2 secondary keywords
2. Feature module — Icon + headline + 2-sentence expansion per feature (6–8 features)
3. Comparison table — Product vs. alternatives on 5–7 decision criteria
4. FAQ module — 4–6 real buyer questions from reviews; short direct answers
5. Social proof closer — Customer result quote + rating summary

Step 6 — Backend Keywords (Amazon)#

• Fill all 250 bytes (or 500 for some categories)
• No punctuation, no repeated words, no brand names from competitors
• Include: misspellings, regional variants, use-case phrases, material synonyms
• Order: highest volume → long-tail → seasonal

Step 7 — Quality Check#

Run through assets/listing-quality-checklist.md before finalizing:

• Policy compliance per platform
• Keyword coverage score (target: primary in title, 4+ mid-tail in bullets)
• Readability: grade 7 or lower for bullet text
• Mobile preview: title renders fully on 5-inch screen

Examples#

Example 1 — Amazon Electronics Listing (Air Purifier)#

Inputs: HEPA air purifier, 500 sq ft coverage, night mode, quiet, targets pet dander. Competitor ASINs provided. Brand: PureHome.

Output:

Title: PureHome H13 HEPA Air Purifier for Large Rooms 500 Sq Ft – Quiet Pet Dander Filter, Auto Night Mode, Air Quality Monitor

Bullet 1: BREATHE CLEANER AIR IN LARGE SPACES — True H13 HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.1 microns including pet dander, dust mites, and pollen, making it ideal for living rooms and open-plan spaces up to 500 sq ft

Bullet 2: WHISPER-QUIET SLEEP MODE — Auto night mode dims LED display and drops fan speed to 22 dB (quieter than a library), so you sleep soundly while the unit keeps working through the night

Bullet 3: REAL-TIME AIR QUALITY DISPLAY — Built-in PM2.5 sensor shows live air quality index in three color zones; fan speed self-adjusts to match current pollution levels so you're always breathing at peak purity

Bullet 4: FILTER REPLACEMENT MADE EASY — Tool-free twist-lock design replaces in under 30 seconds; filter life indicator alerts you at 2,000 hours so you never forget and never over-spend on premature replacements

Example 2 — TikTok Shop Skincare Listing (Vitamin C Serum)#

Inputs: Vitamin C serum 20%, hyaluronic acid, vegan, targets dull skin & hyperpigmentation. No existing listing.

Title (34 chars): Glow Boost 20% Vit C Serum 30ml

Feature Highlights (Shopify-style):

• Visibly brighter in 2 weeks — 20% L-Ascorbic Acid fades dark spots and evens skin tone faster than standard 10% formulas
• Plumping hydration — 2% Hyaluronic Acid draws moisture deep into skin, reducing fine lines and keeping skin bouncy all day
• Clean formula — 100% vegan, no parabens, no fragrance; Dermatologist-tested and cruelty-free certified by Leaping Bunny
• Stable, airless packaging — Vitamin C oxidises on contact with air; our airless pump locks freshness for 6 months after opening

Common Mistakes#

1. Copying the manufacturer description — Generic copy that doesn't reflect search intent or platform conventions; always rewrite from the buyer's perspective
2. Keyword stuffing the title — 10 keywords crammed into the title reads poorly and signals spam to A9/TikTok algorithm; pick 1 primary + 1–2 modifiers
3. Leading bullets with the brand name — Wastes the hook; lead with the customer outcome instead
4. Ignoring byte limits on backend keywords — Submitting 180 bytes when 250 are allowed wastes ranking signal; fill the limit with unique terms
5. Same description for every platform — Amazon's A+ module, Shopify's rich text, and TikTok's short-form require distinct formats
6. No seasonal refresh — Missing "Mother's Day gift" in April or "holiday bundle" in October costs significant search volume
7. Passive voice in bullets — "Can be used for…" vs "Works perfectly for…"; active voice converts better
8. Ignoring mobile preview — 70%+ of TikTok and 60%+ of Amazon browsing is mobile; test title truncation at 375px width
