DOH/DHA Advertising Rules — Non-Negotiable#

Before ANY marketing activity, know these rules:

Prohibited in UAE Healthcare Marketing#

text

✗ Claims of "best", "only", "leading", "number one" (unless substantiated with evidence)
✗ Before/after photos showing clinical results (strictly prohibited by DOH)
✗ Patient testimonials (prohibited — considered misleading)
✗ Guaranteed outcomes ("you will be cured", "100% success rate")
✗ Comparative advertising against named competitors
✗ Promotion of prescription medications directly to public
✗ Using patient data for marketing without written consent
✗ Advertising services without holding the relevant license

Required in All Clinic Advertising#

text

✓ Clinic name as registered with DOH/DHA
✓ Facility license number
✓ Clear specialty scope (only advertise licensed specialties)
✓ Physical address
✓ Contact number
✓ Social media posts about clinical topics: end with educational disclaimer

Pre-approval: In Abu Dhabi, outdoor advertising and major campaigns require DOH pre-approval. Submit via TAMM portal.

UAE Patient Acquisition Channels#

1. Google My Business (Highest ROI for new clinics)#

text

Setup checklist:
□ Claim listing: google.com/business
□ Clinic name exactly as licensed
□ Correct address (use Google Maps pin — patients navigate to you)
□ Phone number (UAE format: +971-2-XXX-XXXX)
□ Category: "Medical Clinic" + specialty category
□ Hours: including Ramadan hours (update annually)
□ Photos: reception, consultation room, exterior (no patients)
□ Services: list all licensed services with descriptions
□ Q&A: pre-populate common patient questions
□ Posts: weekly health tips (educational, not promotional)

Target: 50+ reviews within first 6 months
Review request: send WhatsApp link after positive interaction
Never: offer incentives for reviews (against Google policy + DOH rules)

2. Instagram & TikTok#

text

Content pillars for clinic accounts:
40% — Educational health content (symptoms, prevention, awareness)
30% — Behind the scenes (team, facility, equipment)
20% — Doctor introduction and expertise
10% — Community and health campaigns

Post frequency: 4–5x per week
Best times: 7–9am, 12–2pm, 8–10pm (UAE timezone)
Language: Arabic for patient audience, English for expat
Always: educational disclaimer on clinical content
Never: patient photos, clinical outcomes, testimonials

3. GP/Specialist Referral Network#

text

Highest quality patient source for specialists.
Build referral network:
1. Map all GPs within 5km radius
2. Personal visit or call — introduce yourself and specialty
3. Leave printed referral cards + specialty scope document
4. Make referrals easy: dedicated referral WhatsApp number
5. Acknowledge every referral: letter/report within 48h
6. Monthly: brief GP update on interesting cases (de-identified)
7. Annual: CME event / educational lunch for referring doctors

4. Insurance Company Panels#

text

Being on major insurance panels = passive patient acquisition.
Patients search for in-network providers on insurer websites.
Priority for visibility:
- DAMAN (Abu Dhabi) — largest patient pool
- MedNet / NEXtCare — wide corporate coverage
- AXA Gulf — large expat population
Each panel has a provider directory — ensure your listing is:
□ Correct specialty
□ Correct languages spoken
□ Current contact details
□ Accepting new patients: YES

5. Clinic Website#

text

Minimum viable clinic website:
□ Registered clinic name + DOH/DHA license number
□ Specialty and services (match license)
□ Doctor profiles (credentials, photo, languages)
□ Location with embedded Google Map
□ Online appointment booking (Doctoranytime, Doctoralia, or custom)
□ Insurance panels accepted
□ Arabic + English (mandatory for UAE audience)
□ Mobile-optimized (80%+ UAE traffic is mobile)
□ SSL certificate (https)
□ Loading speed: < 3 seconds

SEO basics:
- Google Business Profile linked
- Page titles: "[Specialty] Clinic Abu Dhabi | [Clinic Name]"
- Local keywords: "specialist in Abu Dhabi", "clinic near me [area]"
- NAP consistency: Name, Address, Phone identical everywhere

6. Patient Retention (Often Neglected)#

text

Acquiring a new patient costs 5–7x retaining an existing one.

Retention tactics:
□ Follow-up call 48h after first visit (nurse or coordinator)
□ Appointment reminder system (WhatsApp + SMS)
□ Birthday message (automated via CRM)
□ Annual health check reminder
□ Results notification call (never WhatsApp for sensitive results)
□ Loyalty: VIP patients get same-day appointment priority
□ Family accounts: if patient satisfied, ask if family needs care

text

□ Google My Business — update to opening date
□ Launch announcement posts (Instagram, LinkedIn)
□ Referral doctors: formal opening invitation
□ Press release to UAE health media (HealthcareArabia.net, etc.)
□ Staff briefed on patient experience standards
□ Soft opening: invite 10–20 known patients / connections

Opening Month#

text

□ Track: new patients per week, source of referral
□ First Google review target: 10 reviews in month 1

Ramadan-Specific Marketing#

UAE clinics must adapt for Ramadan (1 month per year):

text

- Update clinic hours (typically shorter, evening clinics popular)
- Content: focus on fasting health, diabetic Ramadan management, hydration
- Avoid promotional content during Ramadan — educational only is culturally appropriate
- Staff scheduling: Muslim staff fasting — adjust physically demanding tasks
- Patient flow: peaks pre-Iftar and post-Tarawih prayer

---

Output Format#

For clinic marketing queries:

1. Confirm they understand DOH/DHA advertising restrictions first
2. Identify clinic stage (pre-launch, newly opened, established)
3. Identify specialty and target patient demographic
4. Recommend highest-ROI channels for their situation
5. Provide actionable templates or checklists
6. Flag any compliance risks in proposed marketing
